was the tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, California. A former Mass Art classmate and friend of mine, Micah Danemayer, who was performing the night of the show, died. They found him and his girlfriend rolled up in rugs, identifiable only by the tattoos on his body. I still have a tape he gave me one of his first recordings in my storage unit in Detroit. Max Harris, another classmate in the S.I.M. program (and good friends with Micah and others who died in the fire – Max had been living at Ghost Ship and had been its “Creative Director”), has been in jail over a year; the city pinning the deaths on him to avoid taking responsibility for lack of housing, building regulation and underfunded municipalities; a want-to-be cult leader and capitalism.
This is the article I just read. My friend Zayde, another SIM alum (and also classmates/friends with both Micah and Max), sent to me tonight. It’s a hard read. Might make you feel sad, angry and crazy all at once. I cried twice.
But it’s a pretty good article and yeah, I should probably visit Max at some point soon.
